Flagstaff, Az., December 7, 2006 — The Coconino Plateau Water Advisory Council (WAC) is pleased to announce that the North Central Arizona Water Supply Study is now available to the public. Interested parties may download a copy of the study at the Arizona Department of Water Resources website at www.azwater.gov/dwr/default.htm; or the Bureau of Reclamation website at www.usbr.gov/lc/phoenix/.
The study, developed by the Bureau of Reclamation for the WAC, concludes that current water supplies in the area will not meet projected demand to the year 2050. Possible options for increased water supply development are presented in the study. Any proposed actions the WAC chooses to pursue would require further investigation to determine feasibility—taking into consideration the social, legal, economic and environmental impacts.
The partnership’s Technical Advisory Council (TAC) defined the study area and goals of the study. The TAC includes representatives from the study area, Arizona Department of Water Resources, Bureau of Reclamation, the Grand Canyon Trust, U.S. Geological Survey, Northern Arizona University, Coconino County, Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Havasupai Tribe and interested local citizens.
