Why Should I Conserve Water?

Governor Janet Napolitano has repeatedly commented that we in Arizona need to develop a “culture of conservation” when it comes to our precious water resources. She has led the way by requiring state agencies to cut their water use by 5 percent. They responded by reducing consumption by 11 percent!

Here on the Coconino Plateau, we need to appreciate the importance of our water supplies and realize that our supply is not infinite. The Coconino Plateau Water Advisory Council is searching out solutions to projected water deficits, but we must do all we can in the meantime to protect what we have. By working together, we can stretch our supplies and make them last longer.

You may be asking, “What can I do? I’m just one person.”

In this website you will find many links that will show different ways to reduce your water consumption with tips as simple as turning off the water while brushing your teeth to planting low water use plants. Also, you can find options for alternative water supplies such as, how to harvest rainwater or re-use of “grey water” for watering your garden.
